Adami Valerio

Bologna, 1935

Valerio Adami (Bologna, 1935) moved to Milan, where he studied at the Brera Academy in 1954. In 1959, he held his first solo exhibition at the Galleria Naviglio in Milan. Between 1961 and 1964, he worked in London and Paris, and in 1967, in New York, he created a series of works that were exhibited the following year at the Venice Biennale. His early work was influenced by Expressionist painting, which he abandoned in later years, moving towards the forms of American Pop Art, from which he developed a comic-book and ironic style. His art has a sociological focus and is based on life experiences and interpersonal relationships. His paintings are accompanied by current news material, which he manipulates and deconstructs, giving it a new form. From the selected material, the artist creates a drawing that he projects onto the canvas and colors with flat, uniform fields.
