Accardi Carla
Trapani, 1924 - Roma, 2014
Carla Accardi was born in Trapani in 1924 and is considered one of the most important figures in 20th-century Italian abstract art. From her earliest days, she developed innovative research based on signs, essential forms, and visual languages devoid of figurative references. She was part of the Forma 1 group, a movement that promoted abstract art free from symbolism and traditional conventions. She later collaborated with the MAC – Movimento Arte Concreta, exploring geometric and experimental painting. Throughout her career, she has used innovative materials, such as casein and sicofoil, creating works and installations capable of transforming exhibition spaces. Her artistic research is distinguished by an original "alphabet" of signs and colors, which has become the hallmark of her poetics. Alongside her artistic activity, Accardi is also committed to cultural and feminist issues, affirming the role of women in the contemporary art world. Her works are now exhibited in major Italian and international museums, including the MACRO and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. Carla Accardi remains a key figure in Italian contemporary art, capable of combining experimentation, freedom of expression, and cultural commitment.
